Mission
The mission of NYSEF is to support and promote junior alpine ski and snowboarding competition at recreational and competitive levels, and racing based ski education in the local community through Team Falcons. We:
Supplement funding needed for a successful program
Offer ski racing scholarships opportunities for deserving athletes
Support athletes who excel at all levels
Establish broad-based community support through charitable work with youths.
Accomplishing this mission takes a long term commitment by its members. Our goals are to:
Provide excellent communication with member parents and athletes by e-mailing meeting minutes and agendas, monthly newsletters, this Guide, and facilitating regular parent coach meetings.
Honor athletes through an end of season recognition banquet.
Simplify fund-raising for athletes and their families. Work with Mt Rose Staff on chair sales program with parents networking in the community for involvement by businesses.
Expand the scholarship program by increasing the potential numbers as well as diversity of scholarships.
Broaden the talent base to produce high performance athletes that model appropriately for other athletes.
Help athletes transition to the U.S. Ski Team and college athletics. NYSEF expects to support these high profile athletes as needed.
Fund and construct a team room in the new Mt. Rose facilities.
Establish a relationship with community schools that enables Falcons athletes with solid academic standards, to train and compete without a significant penalty at school. This results in a ski racing opportunity equivalent to expensive ski academies while athletes remain at home with their families and grow up in their community.
Maintain Team Falcons strength in its diversity of ability levels and motivation.
Organization
NYSEF is a non-profit organization and tax-exempt under 501(c) 3 of the U.S. Tax Code. It is comprised of 100% volunteers and governed by its Board of Directors. Board officers include a President, President Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and members at large. Committees in place include those for Fund-raising, Special Events, Uniforms, and Scholarships and Volunteer Coordination. The Board holds regular meetings throughout the year with correspondence increasing when the ski season approaches.
All of the money raised goes directly to supporting the team. In addition to scholarships, NYSEF purchases equipment and supplies for use on the hill and at races. Recently, this has included gates, training equipment, radios, coaches' wax and tuning supplies, coaches’ professional development and education. We also fund athletes’ entries and coaching fees at the Junior Olympics and FIS races. We have established a fund to pay for a dedicated space within the new East Bowl lodge. In conclusion, we as a team and a non-profit organization have made great strides in meeting the needs of the skiing and snowboarding youth of Northern Nevada and hope to continue our upward climb all the way to the top
